Make Best Use Of Your Time

Yesterday is gone, Tomorrow is far and Today is now. The now which is Today is the most important. So many of us do not go far in the journey of life because we take little or no thought about opportunities of today and make friends with procrastination.

Procrastination is the tomb in which opportunity is buried. For the up and doing individual there is always time and opportunity. Do not take the sitting position and take whatever comes your way and whenever it comes instead go after it .Every door of opportunity will not open until you give it a push. "I couldn't wait for success said Jonathan Winters so i went ahead without it knowing for sure it will come after me".

Golden opportunities abound in life itself every individual has a lot that can be done for the sky is big and wide enough for every bird to fly.

Start with that thing that you can do; do not stop because of what cannot be done by you. Big and great opportunities will show up as you make the most out of the little ones.
The best gifts we get are opportunities, grab hem as they come and do not let them slip by you.

LIVE IN THE PRESENT; LIVE YOUR LIFE DAILY;UTILIZE EVERY EFFECTUAL DOOR OF OPPORTUNITY THAT COMES YOUR WAY.

Are You A Good Listener

I remember a particular day my 5 year old came back from school and both of us were engrossed in a discussion about her activities for that day.She was so excited that she was willing to give every detail but alas i was always interrupting her and out of anger she said mummy "listen to me first before asking any questions so as to understand what i say"

A recent study in my daily devotionals made me to understand better the message she was trying to pass across.

Someone said and i quote "God gave us two ears and one mouth because we need to listen twice as much as we talk".
Learning that means quick to listen, slow to speak. Good listening according to the devotional builds good relationship but alas good listeners are not born, they are bred.

The following are a few suggestions to improve one's listening:

a. Listening without interrupting: Fight against the temptation to jump in and finish the sentence, tune yourself to just listen.

b. Listen to understand:Try to understand their point of view, feelings, thinking and needs. Good listening is hearing what they actually think, mean or feel not what you imagine they do. Instead of guessing ask.

c. Listen without judging: Do not rush into conclusions. If you do not understand what is said keep listening, for 'He who answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him' (Pro.18:13)

d. Make the speaker acceptable: Accept their perceptions and feelings as valid and acceptable expressions of a valued person. Ask the speaker to help you to understand them better taking into consideration what you have been told by them.

EVERYONE SHOULD BE QUICK TO LISTEN, SLOW TO SPEAK. JAMES 1:19

DEFEATING YOUR GIANT

One day a soldier charged with fleeing from the enemy was brought before Alexander the Great. Alexander asked him, What is your name? Bowing his head , he answered 'Alexander'.
Alexander the Great held him by the shoulders and said, Soldier change your conduct or change your name'!
You have been called to live a life worthy of the one whose name you carry. Regardless of your giant may it be fear, addiction, resentment, pride, lust anger or envy, you must understand that:

a.You are UNIQUE: Your temptations are not different from what others are going through (1st Cor.10 13). Goliath was not always a giant but was fed and taken care of until he was one.Our giants are usually little sins we take little cognisance of and indulge until they take a life of their own and come back to haunt us.

b. You can't do it alone: Your giant will overcome you any time you handle him in your own strength. This is the Lord's battle, and he will give you to us, were the words David spoke to Goliath (1st Sam 17:47) Divine help is needed to overcome old habits and establish mew behaviours.

c. Confront your giants: The bible says as Goliath moved closer to attack, David quickly ran to meet him (1st SAM.17:48). Do not run away, do not try to negotiate, neither compromise or give excuse.
Force your giant out into the light and do not let him back into your live. Create boundaries and make yourself accountable. Stay out of the wrong company and above all, do not look at God in the light of your giant, but look at your giant in the light of God

THE BATTLE IS OF THE LORD

Taking The Right Direction

Journey to the top is neither fast or easy. Anything that has value will never happen in a hurry.
Being impatient has led a lot of us away from what we are actually supposed to do.
Therefore keep your cool and be patient in every situation in life's journey. Remember the golden rule for direction in life DO NOT BE IMPATIENT.

The key to success is doing the right thing at the right time. Succeeding has little to do with speed but more with direction and timing. There is more value to the life we live now and how we live it than to increase its speed.

Life in the fast track creates a danger in that you get to the other end too soon. Many of us overestimate what we can do in a year and pay little attention by underestimating what can be done in a life time.

Our happiness knows no bound when we discover that what should be done and what is done are the same.

ECCE. says "To everything there is a season, a time for everything.

A Story on Friendship

A story is told about a soldier who was finally coming home after having fought in Vietnam. He called his parents from San Francisco.

"Mom and Dad, I'm coming home, but I've a favor to ask. I have a friend I'd like to bring home with me.

"Sure," they replied, "we'd love to meet him."

"There's something you should know," the son continued, "he was hurt pretty badly in the fighting. He stepped on a land mind and lost an arm and a leg. He has nowhere else to go, and I want him to come live with us."

"I'm sorry to hear that, son. Maybe we can help him find somewhere to live."

"No, Mom and Dad, I want him to live with us."

"Son," said the father, "you don't know what you're asking. Someone with such a handicap would be a terrible burden on us. We have our own lives to live, and we can't let something like this interfere with our lives. I think you should just come home and forget about this guy. He'll find a way to live on his own."

At that point, the son hung up the phone. The parents heard nothing more from him. A few days later, however, they received a call from the San Francisco police. Their son had died after falling from a building, they were told. The police believed it was suicide.

The grief-stricken parents flew to San Francisco and were taken to the city morgue to identify the body of their son. They recognized him, but to their horror they also discovered something they didn't know, their son had only one arm and one leg.

The parents in this story are like many of us. We find it easy to love those who are good-looking or fun to have around, but we don't like people who inconvenience us or make us feel uncomfortable. We would rather stay away from people who aren't as healthy, beautiful, or smart as we are.

Thankfully, there's someone who won't treat us that way. Someone who loves us with an unconditional love that welcomes us into the forever family, regardless of how messed up we are.

Tonight, before you tuck yourself in for the night, say a little prayer that God will give you the strength you need to accept people as they are, and to help us all be more understanding of those who are different from us!!! There's a miracle called Friendship That dwells in the heart You don't know how it happens Or when it gets started But you know the special lift It always brings. And you realize that Friendship Is God's most precious gift!

Friends are a very rare jewel, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share a word of praise, and they always want to open their hearts to us. Show your friends how much you care....

TROUBLESHOOTING

Is it when you find yourself in a hole that you engage in deep prayer?

If God is your father, please call home. The devil smiles when we make plans laughs when we get TOO busy but shivers when we pray. Don't worry about anything take it to God in prayers, pray about everything; tell God your needs and do not forget to thank Him for answered prayers.
If you do this regularly you will experience His peace, which passes all human understanding.(Phil/4:6-7)

When you feel been swept off your feet, it is time to go back o your knees.
The time you spend in God's presence is never lost says Gordon Lindsay. The highest purpose of faith or prayer is not to change your circumstances but to change you. Pray to do the will of God in every situation.
Begin the day with God."Martin Luther said,"I have so much to do today that i shall spend the first three hours in prayer." Prayer may not change all things for you, but it sure changes you for all things. He is waiting to hear from you.

The Most Dangerous Sin

In the Biblical book of Hebrews chapter 12, we learn of a very interesting progression and warning. It begins this way:

Hebrews 12:1 - Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Sin, particularly in the life of the Christian, can keep us from accomplishing what God intended us to accomplish. It prevents us from doing the will of God and finding purpose and meaning in our lives.

The Bible continues further on down with more warnings of the dangers of sin:

Hebrews 12:14-15 - Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

If sin is not dealt with, it leads to these additional complications and problems in our Christian lives:

1. Prevents us from seeing the hand of God in our lives. God is evident all around us. Sin, however, will blind us to these evidences. People who are living a just and righteous life will see God's involvement and hand in every aspect of their lives. But sin can blind us to all of that.

2. Fail of the grace of God. Grace is God's provision for our insufficiencies. Sin can rob us of this provision. We all are lacking in things. God's grace makes up for where we lack. But sin will cause a failure to receive or take advantage of that provision. This may be because we can't see God's activity in our lives.

3. The root of bitterness that defiles many. This is the ultimate burden of sin. Sin, left unchecked, will bring a root of bitterness into our lives that cause us to be blind to God, to fail of God's grace, and eventually defile many of the things we love.

So what is the most dangerous sin? Your most dangerous sin is that sin that you have successfully hidden from everyone else. We don't deal with a sin that we can successfully hide. We just continue to hide it. This is extremely dangerous.

I've often said that the best thing to happen to a child who does wrong is for him to get caught. Being caught means he must now deal with his wrong. He must address it. And he can purge himself of the guilt that the wrong produces.

But it gets worse when an adult successfully hides an affair, pornography, a drug habit, or what not. Not only does the guilt of the sin begin to poison his mind and his heart, but he never seeks to address it properly. He just keeps hiding it.

The Bible also tells us:

Numbers 32:23 - But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.

This does not necessarily mean that you will be caught. Though the odds of being caught increase the longer you hide your sin. But it means that your sin will eventually consume you, change your attitudes, your thinking, and your heart. Eventually, you won't even care that people know what you're doing or involved in. You may even get to the point where you brag about it.

This root of bitterness has destroyed so many relationships and families. I've witnessed firsthand the destruction of a sin that has been successfully hidden from everyone else. Eventually, their heart and mind is poisoned. They harm relationships, they begin to question God, and they have an uncaring attitude.

Your sin will come out one way or another. You will get caught, or you'll get to the place where you just won't care anymore. It left alone long enough, the root of bitterness will consume you.

The very best thing in the world to do is to admit your sin to someone that can help you. Obviously, you need to take it to God and ask for forgiveness, but you also need to admit it to the person you were trying to hide it from. If you don't, you'll continue to make it difficult to quit the sin, and you'll just jade yourself even further. Admit it. Get it out. Seek help.

As a parent, if one of my sons come to me and admits a wrong, asks for punishment, and wants to fix the wrong, I would be floored. I can't imagine that I would get angry or upset. In fact, I would have a difficult time even disciplining him. After all, the purpose of discipline is to get them to face the wrong and deal with it. But if he is already doing that, then I don't need to. I would be ecstatic if my children did this. So would any parent.

Whatever your sin may be, bad or really bad, hiding it is the worst thing you can possibly do. It sears your conscious, it poisons your heart, and it allows that root of bitterness to begin to grow.

That is the most dangerous of all sins.

The Power in Obedience
Acts 5 Vs 29 'Peter and the other apostles replied, "We must obey God rather than men."
It is the will of God for us to be obedient to him, to obey whatever he tells us to. I'm not just talking about the instructions in the Bible. There are times when we have been praying to God about a situation and when we receive the answer it might not be what we have expected it to be and we end up doing things our own way. The results more than likely will end up disastrous.

For example, in the book of Genesis starting at Chapter 15 Abraham was concerned about who he would give his estate to as an inheritance. So he said to the Lord that he would leave his estate to his servant, the Lord told Abraham his servant will not be his heir but a son coming from his own body will be his heir. God already told Abraham that despite the fact he was old he actually was going to have a child. Maybe Abraham did not really comprehend what God was saying to him as he obeyed what his wife Sarah told him to do which was to sleep with his maidservant in order that they could have a child. However as I mentioned before when we end up doing things are own way rather than God's way the results more than likely will end up disastrous. In the end Sarah did not want this child that Abraham had with his maidservant and the maidservant and the child named Ishmeal had to leave.

There is a reason why I gave this particular overview is because sometimes we are more obedient to what other people tell us to do more than God. How many times has God told you or laid it on your heart that you're called for this ministry, or ring so, so, and so. Or you must or must not go there and we don't end up doing what he tells us to. Now when other people tell us to do something we normally end up doing what they have told us to do. But it is important to God that we do what he says as there is power in obeying God.

Why does God want us to be obedient to him? Well it is because we now belong to him, we are his children he knows the beginning and end of every situation. He created us so he knows us better than we know ourselves. Most large domestic appliances i.e. washing machines and dishwashers that we buy come with instructions, in order for us to follow as we need to know how the appliance works. When we read the instructions we don't question the inventors if the instructions that they put on the paper is correct we trust and obey that if we follow the instructions then the washing machine and the dishwasher will work.

However when it comes to God we start to question, 'Lord are you sure I have to do this,' 'Lord are you sure your telling me to do this,' or 'Lord why do I need to go there.' I'm not saying that we don't need to be careful about the voices that come to us, but the Lord does say my sheep know my voice. God will not leave you in confusion you will feel God's peace about the situation all you need to do is just obey whatever God is telling you and you must learn to develop trust with God just as you trust the instructions on a piece of paper that man has written so must we trust God when he is telling us to do something. Trust and Obedience go hand in hand they are like partners.

The New Choice English Dictionary published by Peter Haddock Publishing defines obedience as the condition of being obedient; observance of orders, instructions; respect for authority.
There are lots of people in the Bible who were disobedient to God, there were the Israelites, Saul, however one famous person mostly talked about who was disobedient to God was Jonah.

God told Jonah to go to Nineveh to prophesy against it as their wickedness came up before the Lord. Now rather than doing what God said Jonah decided to go his own way. The consequences of this is that Jonah ended up for three days and night in the belly of a large fish and he had to end up repenting for being disobedient to God.

The irony is Jonah ended up doing what God told him to do in the first place. Sometimes when we are disobedient to God it is because we do not know the outcome of the situation especially when it doesn't seem to make sense. However we must remember God has plans for us of good and not of evil. We must truly allow him to let his will be done in our lives.

Now there are a lot of advantages of being obedient and some of them are:
It teaches you to depend on God and not yourself.
Teaches you to trust God more, teaches you humility and to be submissive to our creator.
If you are obedient to God first then it will teach you to be obedient to whom God has put in authority over you in both work and personal situations.
Some of the disadvantages of being disobedient are:
It teaches you to become depend on yourself rather than God.
You will find it hard to submit to authority.
You become prideful and God hates pride
So children of God what's it going to be? Are you going to live as disobedient children to our heavenly father or obedient children? Remember God knows best it is either his way or no way. As the above scripture says we must obey God rather than men.
